Lauren Ross was invited to deliver two talks at Le Centre national de la recherche scientifique (Bordeaux, France) in January 2018. The first was titled: "Causal Concepts in Biology: How Pathways Differ From Mechanisms and Why it Matters." The second was titled: "The Doctrine of Specific Etiology."
Lauren Ross
Lauren N. Ross is an Eyes High Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Calgary. Her research concerns explanation and causation particularly in the areas of biology, neuroscience, and medicine. In one set of projects she identifies common types of causal complexity in these domains, the challenges they pose for explanation, and how scientists overcome these challenges. In other work she examines various explanatory patterns in these sciences and clarify how they are guided by considerations which are overlooked in the extant literature.
