In March, 2018, Ken Waters delivered the keynote address at the Final Conference of the ERC Project: A Process Ontology for Contemporary Biology. His talk was titled, "Ask Not 'What is an Individual?'" Participants learned what question they ought to ask instead.

Ken Waters is Canada Research Chair in Logic and Philosophy of Science and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Calgary. Waters’ research concerns the nature of knowledge in the context of scientific practice and the conditions that make this knowledge possible. Much of his research examines biological practices and the way biologists seek to investigate, manipulate, and understand life. He believes metaphysics should be informed by the forms of scientific practice that work in our complex and changing world.
